Sirhan Sirhan, who has been described as a a mentally unbalanced Palestinian Christian, shot Sen. Robert Kennedy the night he won the California primary because the senator had promised military support for Israel if elected President. According to recently released Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) documents, Sirhan Sirhan may have also tried to hire a killer to assasinate Ted Kennedy in 1977. Sirhan is currently serving a life sentence for the assasination of Sen. Robert Kennedy in 1968. According to the New York Daily News, an unidentified fellow inmate at the federal prison at Soledad, Calif., where Sirhan Sirhan was incarcerated, claims Sirhan offered him a million dollars and a car to kill Ted Kennedy.
The inmate revealed the offer to the FBI while being interviewed in another matter following his parole. The inmate claims he declined the offer, but was instructed to contact Sirhan’s mother if he changed his mind after being released from prison. The information has come to light as classified documents have been released following Sen. Ted Kennedy’s death in 2009.
